Twelve months on from its infamous data breach, Target was ruled as negligent by a court this week, which will allow a number of financial institutions to proceed with their class action suit against the retailer. The District Court in Minnesota ruled that several financial institutions, who reimbursed the some 110 million affected customers, could take Target to court for damages.
The banks in question stated that Target had been negligent, says the court filing, but Target argued that because it did not have a direct relationship with the financial institutions, it was not liable for the costs of issuing the credit and debit cards post breach…
